    A word other than "serendipity" that means accidental discovery (see more information).

    When physicist Roentgen discovered X-Rays, he was attempting to bend the path of an electron beam.  While successful at doing so, he discovered that an unknown beam -- the X-Ray -- continued in a straight line.  There is a word for that type of discovery -- looking for one thing and finding another of equal or greater value.  The word is not serendipity, it is.....?

    Yes, it is - the faculty of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for. The penicillin discovery was a serendipitous act too.
