    No you're not doing it wrong, it's just that we are all volunteers here and there are only a few mechanically minded.

      You're doing this just fine.  But not everybody can answer all of the questions.  We can offer suggestion though, like contact your Cadillac dealer......

          Ask your nearest Cadillac dealer, I don't know what a crankshaft resister is.
