      The shin, a mammal's is hair covered and sweats and the reptile's skin is watertight and covered with dry scales

                Light and heat as you know are two different things. Your comment about dark colours is correct BUT dark colours also dissipate heat, which is the reason the radiator in your car is painted black to dissipate the heat and help keep the motor cooler.
