A chiropractor told me years ago, that you should NEVER, EVER get into the habit of cracking your back (you'll often see people doing that twisting motion with their neck also) or any other part of your body....fingers, wrists, ankles, etc. It can cause permanent damage and painful joints as you age. So it is definitely a problem and should NOT be done!

I'm 65 and I've cracked my knuckles and neck sense I was a kid, no problems with it so far.
