      To cleanse the system and rid body of toxins...gives liver a well deserved rest...though water is a must!...OR FOR RELIGIOUS REASONS!

        Too show Christ that we love him and are willing to make sacrafices  as well as he did, some may think it's a catholic thing, which might be true .. but if Christ fasted in the desert for days why can't we if we truely love him..

          Extreme calorie restriction has been shown to increase life-span in almost every species, fish, dogs, flies, even yeast. Check out the CRON diet (calorie restriction optimal nutrition) on google.
