x - 3 = -27

You have to get x by itself. So, you do the opposite of subtraction which is addition. 

x -3 + 3 = -27 + 3

Answer:  x = -24

Note:  27 is negative  and 3 is positive. So, you subtract. Be careful, watch the signs!!!

Check answer:

Put -24 in place of x in the problem.

-24 - 3 = -27

24 and 3 are both negative. So, you add.

Note: A minus sign in front of a positive number makes that number negative.

-24 + -3 = -27

        -27  = -27

I might of screwed up, the number for X, is definitely 30, but its either neg. or pos. 30! I believe it's 

30 - 3 = -27, cuz when you have a positive and a negative number, you get a negative answer, which is -27. 

X - 3 = -27

-30 - 3 = -27
