None of these look like any goldfinch I have seen

A male goldfinch crossed with a female canary is called a mule in Australia and they are fantastic whistlers.

You have the European Goldfinch in Autralia. It has a red face. It is not native to the US.

OOPS Ann now I have a red face, but of course you are correct AGAIN. Little miss smarty pants.
I have seen goldfinches in England and as you say they are identical to the ones down under.
They have gold on their wings and are a really pretty bird.
    Bit like you really.
