It,s a good idea.
1 part white vinegar
2 parts linseed oil
Jar with a lid
Pour the solution into a jar with a lid, shake well and apply to the leather with a soft cloth. Let it sit for 12 hours and buff. If the cloth starts to soil, be sure to change it often. Store the leftover solution for future usage.

Whatever you do, use Boiled Linseed Oil, not Raw. The raw doesn't work out as well, it will remain greasy, and you will never get it all off, or into the leather. You can use it like "formbys' wood cleaner" the home made receipt is 1 part boiled linseed oil, 1 part turpentine, and 1 part boiling hot water. This works on washing wood, I have not tried it on leather, and would try on a baseball glove, rather than my favorite jacket, first.
