739 + (-930) = - 191 OK, but......How did he get that answer????
When you add a number less than 0, -930 in this case, you subtract it from the number which is more than 0. 739 - 930. The answer is less than 0, because 930 is MORE than 739. To simplify the process, subtract 739 from 930 (930 - 739) and just put the negative sign in the answer:
(191) or -191
Think of it this way. You have $739 in your wallet, but you owe me $930. You need $191 MORE just to pay me off and be at $0. So you are still $191 in the hole, even if you give me the $739. Does that help?
