    kidneys filter out the poisons from you blood making urine. Diabetes if not controlled clog up your kidneys with too much blood sugar. You will get symptoms of kidney diseae.

And the most debilitating (killing) is Diabetes because it affects a whole load of other organs in your body and not only the Kidney. And Diabetes is caused by the imbalance of sugar in your blood. Could be an inheritance from your parents because it is genetic, or by the lack of insulin etc..
