Generally speaking, yes. Caution is advised wherever you go. That said, it is almost 100% Moslem, and in light of the massacre in Afghanistan, anti-Americanism has only been exacerbated. I would keep a low profile and not advertise that I'm an American and try to fit in with the rest of the population, if possible and not look like a tourist. Things can change in the "blink of an eye." You can check State Department advisories for the "latest" info.
