Choose something not so readily easy to look up:
how do you find the median of this group of numbers:63,75,29,37,49?
First sort the numbers in numerical order
<dir>29, 37, 49, 63, 75</dir>
and then find the number in the middle
<dir>29, 37, 49, 63, 75</dir>
That's the median, 49.
The obvious question is, "what if there are an even number of numbers?" For example what is you are to find the median of 63,75,29,37,49,52?
Sort them in numerical order
<dir>29, 37, 49, 52, 63, 75</dir>
locate the middle two
<dir>29, 37, 49, 52, 63, 75</dir>
and take their average
<dir> 49 + 52/2 = 50.5</dir>
The median of 63,75,29,37,49,52 is 50.5
