4x-y=11 y=2x-5

4x - 2x -5 = 11 > Put 2x - 5 in place of y

4x - 2x = 2x

2x - 5 = 11

The opposite of subtraction is addition. Add 5 on both sides.

2x - 5 = 11

+5 +5

--------------------

2x = 16

The opposite of multiplication is division. Divide by 2.

Answer: x = 8

Replace y with ( 2x -5) in 4x - y = 11

4x - (2x-5) = 11

4x - 2x + 5 =11

2x = 11 - 5

2x = 6

x = 6/2 = 3

replace the x in y = 2x - 5

y = 2 times 3 - 5

y = 6 - 5 = 1

x=3 y=1
