On the old stye thermometer, they had the numbers and the arrows on the side of the therm. The arrows showed you when a temp was too high,or too low. On the more modern digital therms., there should be directions that come with it to tell you at which number a fever starts, etc. If there's no directions, just remember that a rectal temp is 1 degree higher than an oral temp. So, with an oral temp, the normal range is 94---100. F. Anything ever 100F is a fever. BUT, with a rectal temp, you have to subtract one number from normal. So anything over 99 F is a fever.
