Insert the Sonic the Hedgehog cartridge in the Genesis and press the power switch to "On."

    2
Press the "Start" button on the controller when the "Sonic the Hedgehog" title screen appears. The game is only available for one player and there are no options to adjust.

    3
Use the left and right directional pad buttons to move Sonic left and right on the screen. When Sonic is standing still, you can look up and down by pressing the up and down directional pad buttons.

    4
Push the "A," "B" or "C" button while Sonic is moving to perform the "Super Sonic Spin Attack." When activated, Sonic jumps in the air in a spinning ball. This allows him to capture high rings, reach other parts of the game board, open boxes that have power ups and destroy enemies.

    5
Turn Sonic into a rolling ball by pressing the down directional pad button while Sonic is moving. When transformed into a rolling ball, Sonic will destroy any enemies in his path.
