The piriformis (from Latin piriformis = "pear shaped") is a muscle in the gluteal region of the lower limb. It was first named by Spigelius, a professor from the University of Padua in the 16th century.[1] http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/55/Posterior_Hip_Muscles_1.PNG/250px-Posterior_Hip_Muscles_1.PNG
