Including the above question, I've heard some that would challenge the heck out of this notion. Surely the adage is a nice way of giving an audience permission to not be shy. But what about the one's who aren't shy? So, my question(s), stupid or not, is: what does this question mean? Is it true? Examples, anecdotes and situations are appreciated. Like: are you pregnant? Are you high? Have you had a sex change? What's it like to be bald? etc.

The only stupid question is the one you don't ask. Asking questions is the oldest & most basic form of education. A question may seem stupid to us but the the asker it may be important.
I'm not talking about the leading questions here that are only seeking to stir some people up.Just the basic ones like "Am I pregnant".

@ ValR, Fishlet is taking some time away from the forum and deciding if she wants to continue on here in light of recent events. I thought you knew this hence my comment to you the other day.
If it wasn't stupid I wouldn't be asking,?

Some humans are not putting enough thought into the question.
lol
OWLS feel superior because they are full of knowledge and think most other creature's questions are stupid when asked.
SANDPIPERS know little but want to learn so they ask questions all of the time and think all unasked questions are stupid.
MOCKINGBIRDS aren't sure (which makes perfect sense!)
and the rest...as they say...is for the birds!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well stated ROMOS, but I subdued her in the end, no pun intended.
Holy s--t I just remembered "she" had young ones with "her" and it is the male Emu that rears the young. No wonder "she" fought so hard, oh well too late now.
Doolittle y our "ps" was very well thought out and, in the circumstances most appropriate.
I used to talk to our chooks when we had them so they were f"OWLS" is that the same?

First off ROMOS let me enlighten you oh! fool of the Roys`.
The quote ORIGINALlY was "There is no such thing as a stupid question?"
The inference being the question is not stupid to the one asking it. This site excluded.
DOOLITTLE! Owls as you should know are not wise they are among the dumbest.
Their alleged "Wise old Owl" derives from their being the bird of the Greek Godess of wisdom so people associate the owl with wisdom.
The smartest bird/s is/are the one/s that went out with me in my youth.
