March 13, 2012, the date in which MO or Altria goes EX Dividend. This means you would have to be the owner of record at the March 12 market close. To purchase the stock on the EX DIV date would not make you the owner of record for this quarter. Also, the dividend payment would not be March 13 but some 3 weeks or so later. This is called "the payment date".
