    shallots are a member of the onion family .they are a lot smaller than onions (about  the size of a ten pence piece if you live in the u.k) and are used mainly for pickleing or cooking.

    They are a milder form of onion. In fact, onions can be substituted for shallots in a recipe but be aware, the flavor will be stronger..............
