One advantage a wife has is she can get SS benefit base on her husbands work record, even though she never worked or pain FICA and the guy that worked alongside of him and NEVER married, paid the SAME.same total FICA for their life time.
In addition, if had a a former wife, to whom he was married for at least ten years, she too can get a benefit based on HIS work record as well
That is one reason the young folks today, that live together with out getting married are fools
