      You can have the carpet cleaned & maybe put down a couple of scatter rugs to cover any stains.Wash the walls & ceiling with sugar soap. Hang up some pictures with some of those new sticky things that come off without leaving a mark.

        Suggest to the landlord that you will pay for the upgrade, if you can afford it , the only other thing I would recommend is a good old spring cleaning.
