Really?
President Barack Obama linked his economic policies to his Christian faith, saying on Thursday that meeting the nation's challenges requires strong values as much as smart policies.
Obama, making his third appearance as president at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, used his remarks to justify many of his actions, such as his call for the wealthy to pay more in taxes and his health care overhaul. He said they were not only economically sound but also rooted in his Christian values.
"When I talk about shared responsibility, it's because I genuinely believe that in a time when many folks are struggling and at a time when we have enormous deficits, it's hard for me to ask seniors on a fixed income or young people with student loans or middle-class families who can barely pay the bills to shoulder the burden alone," Obama said.
"But for me as a Christian, it also coincides with Jesus' teaching that, for unto whom much is given, much shall be required," he said.
"It's also about the biblical call to care for the least of these, for the poor, for those at the margins of our society; to answer the responsibility we're given in Proverbs to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute."
Sometimes, he said, pastors come to the Oval Officer to pray with him, for his family and for the country.
(My thoughts............the pastors are failing or God is not listening)

Great idea Obama, let all the Christians shoulder the tax burden since it's their God who backs it. : )

I wonder if he is talking about the people living on welfare for generations. Maybe he's bringing back work camps so they can start paying back.....

'Give to Rome what is due to Rome' (paraphrase) was Jesus' command about the Roman tax. A 10% tythe was also expected in the temples (and now, in many Christian churches). Though not the same as a Roman tax- the temples, and their leaders, made many decisions on the day to day life in their towns/cities- one synagogue per place (think State and local taxes). That 10% makes the rich give more (obviously) but it makes a huge difference for the Very Poor to Very Rich- no loop-holes. Rough around the edges-Yup. Once WE created the separation between church and state WE should have stopped using our religions to justify our decisions about the state (actual state or the union's state)

!% of the people have 90% of the wealth and routinely pay 1% or less of the national tax revenues. The republicans reps voted against taxing the rich and there is so much wrong with Obama that I should vote republican? I thought Al-kada was in some other country.

Again its nothing but a speech geared to those who follow him blindly. They have to ask themselves why every one in 4 americans are living below the poverty line under his watch. More than ever.. As far as religion goes, Obama was associated with radical Jeremiah Wright who now lives in a million dollar mansion while his flock is still suffering and living in poverty.

The problem here is that the general public is responsible for the insertion of religion into politics and the republicans revel in that nonsence. You can't get elected if you are an atheist. So, politicians do and say what they muist in order to get elected and I think that it's hypocritical to get self-righteous about it.
