This is a theological debate... Some are convinced that Jesus' great commandment and commission override the old testament... Some believe that they are in addition too the old Testament.
My personal understanding is that the 10 commandments are eternal, the law of Moses was washed away by the blood of Christ. (cleanliness of body, and food ect. )
Your relationship with Christ is your own. Let discernment be your guide.

Most of the new Testament was written yonks after Jesus left so they are not HIS words they are the words of story tellers.

Would not this be putting the cart before the horse Daren.
Believing in something "before" the universe was created sounds a bit arse about face to me.
