Microsoft office 2007 is loaded on my computer but I do not have a product key to activate it. Does that mean it was loaded on but never purchased?

You get  a free trial when you buy the computer. You need to contact Microsoft to buy the key to continue using it after the trial period.

Sorry, I misread the question. I was thinking of the whole Windows program. I found on my computer a program called Microsoft Office and under that there was a subtitle called "Microsoft Word starter 10" I use it all the time.

Ahhh, I understand your mistake. Makes sense now :)

If it was loaded on your computer and you bought it new, the code is embedded into the computer.  When you registered your computer, it sent all the information to MS.  Now, you should make re-install copy discs so that you have something to re-install in case your computer crashes.

Not always true. I got a version in my computer, registered it and everything and still had to pay for the key to use it beyond it's free trial period.
