In selling political advertising, are they taxable?

I will be selling signs etc to candidates and need to know if I should charge them sales tax on their purchases

Yes as business income.

Like any cost of doing business your operating costs are deductible on a IRS Schedule "C," from the gross income earned

As to sales taxes , that depends on the law in your state.
