THey make excellent pets. I had one from when I was in th  e 8th grade till I was about in the 11th grade. He never tried to bite any one. Don't keep them in water b/c they are land turtles. They do like to be in shallow water occasionally  and even eat in shallow water then poop long poops. you can let them have free rein of your house. They are clumsy swimmers, b/c they don't have webbed feet, and they tire easily .
