why do we see 6 rays emanating from the sun whether by naked eye or thru camera lens, glasses etc

just a science /nature question----please respond to Agnes- I like folk sayings and in Hungarian we say if someone's still sleeping very late - "Get up, the sun is shining in seven rays!" (translation always comes out awkward } ----anyhow I wondered why the sun was shining in seven rays but now I think it is to emphasize the lateness of the hour by exaggerating the usual six we see so I want to know what optical refraction or other normal scientific explanattion there is for the six rays

I don't think either 6 or 7 trays to be true. What I do know is that looking at the sun with the naked eyes will dammage your eyes beyond repair.
