The Hebrew Bible mentions Melchizedek in three different books. Some believe that he was a theophany (appears to be God) others believe that he prefigured Christ. Melchizedek means King of Righteousness, King of Salem (Jerusalem) and priest of God Most High. He has no begining or end and that he remains a priest forever. Martin Luther, who studied the bible, figured him to be Shem - a decendant of Abraham. In Martin Luther's day, it was against the laws of the church to read the bible and he was almost put to death for doing so. This is a very interesting subject to study, enjoy the search!
