          That word was on my mental list when the question first appeared. Thanks for including it..it's perfectly derogatory!

          Along with "insulting", derogatory is belittling, demeaning, disrespectful, cutting (as in hurtful verses carving a turkey), mean/cruel, put-down, "slam".   
          An antonym for "derogatory" would be "compliment", if that makes it easier to understand.
