I have a growling noise in the rear of my Club Car golf cart. Any suggestions? Does it use gear oil?

Could be a few things. Bearings comes to mind. Could be the drive shaft too or chain if it's chain driven, could be lube like you think. You really need someone with mechanical knowledge on golf carts to look at it.

Have you checked that Tiger Woods, or worse still his wife, is not a stowaway?
