Your grandson may have a lot of surfactant (I'm spelling it wrong, but that's how it is pronounced) in his lungs.  It is a mucous-like substance.   My son was born prematurely; his breathing problems kept him in the NICU for thirty days; he wasn't producing surfactant.  

You should have already been to the pediatrician for this by now.  You had children....you know when something isn't right.  He could have pneumonia or asthma.  Those can be deadly.

he may have developed a condtion known as bronchiolits (baby asthma)-which is an inflammation of his lungs or he could have a nasal blockage "choanal atresia"- the mom can dry suctioning out his nose with a bulb aspirator and some saline nose drops or put him nea a humidifier -but in any event should do to his pediatrician pretty soon
