Platelets are tiny "plates" in the blood that over lap each other at the source of injury and stop the bleeding.

    Platelets start the clotting process........

I am lucky enough to give platelets and plasma every fortnight at the red cross. the platelets are used to for the clotting of the blood in chemo. road accidents, or any internal trauma where there is blood loss. Unfortunely platelets have only a shelf life of 24 hours, though there is always an urgent need for it.
