    Etymology. That word "squirrel", first attested in 1327, comes from the Anglo-Norman esquirel which is from the Old French escurel, the reflex of a Latin wordsciurus. ... The native Old English word for the squirrel, ?cweorna, survived only into Middle English (as aquerne) before being replaced.

    It simply shows variations of 'squirrel' meaning those furry, cute, fluffy tailed varmints! They are cute! We have a rather large Eastern Grey that trounces past our window every day just to annoy the cats... lol!
