Swollen ankles often a sign of fluid retention maybe to do with the heart or on your feet too long or standing in one position - everyone's ankles are more swollen at night and after resting they are smaller in the morning - for the swelling support tights or support socks must be up to the knee like flight socks - help the venous return to the body. The redness (shiny) is probably cellulitis which goes sometimes with this type of fluid retention in the ankles/legs. swelling like this is called oedema and if bad when you press it - it pits.
