      Colonoscopy is the endoscopic examination of the colon and the distal part of the small bowel with a CCD camera or a fiber optic camera on a flexible tube passed through the anus. It may provide a visual diagnosis (e.g. ulceration, polyps) and grants the opportunity for biopsy or removal of suspected lesions.


      In other words, A Doctor puts a camera up your butt to see if you have any polyps or cancer in your colon.  Yippee

        And the prep is much worse than the procedure.

        There is also an examination called Colposcopy-this is when a colposcope is used to examine a women's vagina and cervix. Colonoscopy is as Yvonne says.
