    How do organisms that typically live in a dark environment, like those in the gut, benefit from photosynthesis?

    Not all organisms photosynthesise, only green plants. Gut organisms live on material such as hydrogen sulphide. Don't forget that until  cyanobacteria evolved about 3.5 billion years ago oxygen did not exist, and those in your gut would die if exposed to it.

    So, the answer is, they don't.

    I think that expsure to light would make make them grow even more.That's why they told my aunt not to sit in the sun after she had cancer. It might make minor, undeveloped cancer cells grow.
