Hi The Wizard, my Husband bought mine for me through Amazon and set up an account with the credit card so I can download books and it would automatically be paid for. Since I download books straight through the kindle and not through my computer all the time, I would have to have a credit account in place. I would say yes, you need a credit card to have an open account for purchases. Did you not buy yours through Amazon? yvonne57 By the way, he set up a limit on the amount of purchases that can be made at one time.
