    I heard it's parachute cord sort of twisted into a braid like pattern. It's supposed to mean that they're prepared for anything; or it's good luck. I wouldn't mind having one. Some men wear them for bracelets too. My g friend bought two of them for her 2 grown  grandsons.

    As mycatsmom says, its for good luck, baseball players are very superstitious, many have their own quirks, I am a Giant's fan, Tim Linscum  wears his hair long and will not give up his tattered hat. many baseball players won't step on a foul line except when making a play. They all seem to have that 'finger point to heaven' now when things go right for them. All superstitions.
