There are many answers to this question. Here are two answers.   The true  origin of the Indian Summer dates back to 18th century, Unted States. It can be defined as any spell of, warm, quiet, hazy weather that may occur in October, or early November.

Others say, the weather is named after Native Americans, because they were the first to recognize the patten. They used to use mild weather to hunt and harvest for the winter.
