    They are the largest source of water on earth and provide the fresh water through evaporation and rains on land. they are the largest heat sink and help in stabilising the temperature of the planet. They provide many minerals, chemicals and marine organisms for our use.


    90% of earth's oxygen comes from algae in the ocean..I'de say that's the main importance.
