Well since I do not know your computer and can not see your screen, I can only guess. I do not know what this side bar is that you mention. If it's something that came with your operating system then there has to be a way to shut it off. Try your bottom toolbar and see if there's something there that you can click to close it. I'm not really a computer tech so I can only offer things for you to try.
