I have a problem with my 49 chevy pickup blowing smoke from the valve cover @ blowby tube
New to the forum, just received this truck and anxious to get it on the road but concerned about this smoking problem. Think a full engine rebuild will be necessary or will it be cheaper to go with another engine? By the way it has the original 216 that has been sitting up for ten years.

Possible blown head gasket, possible blown rings. Better if it's just the gasket but bad either way. Take it to a mechanic.

Might be cheaper all the way around if you buy a new engine if you can install it yourself. For my bronco, new engine, installed was 2 grand. Not bad actually.
Note that I'm not saying that the engine is the cheaper route for this problem, just thinking that it's been setting for a long time and you may find it becomes a tinker engine with other issues that may come up for it's years of setting. See how much it would be to just rebuild that engine.
