    In the yellow fever epidemic in Philadelphia in the late 1800's, died something like 3,500 people. You can decide if it's a lot... At first it was thought that during that fever (not only in Philadelphia, but also in NYC) died 10,000 people, but the official numbers say it's probably a little more than a half of that in total.
