A 13 year old boy’s rite of passage in the Jewish faith is the Bar Mitzva. The ceremony is divided to two parts. In the first part the boy lays Tefillin for the first time in his life. It is done in mid week before the Aleya to the Tora. Different branches of Judaism lay the Tefillin in different times before the Aleya to the Tora. It can be done on the boy’s 13th birthday or even 3 months before. The Aleya to the Tora is done on the first Saturday after the boy’s 13th Birthday. Then the boy will read a section from the Tora or a prayer in Hebrew.
