If you think of evolution, it is probable that a mutation took place and it may resulted in an adult bird, resembling the chicken, which went on to lay an egg. Or more likely, a mutation of the embryo resulted in some chicken like individuals which grew up to reproduce. If you believe in Creationism by God, ?? which first, All in all, one of the questions with no clear answers as I see it...
