Godparent's role during christening: a godparent speaks on the behalf of a new-born in a baptism and gives his/her sponsorship over the ceremony. A godparent commits to support the parents in bringing the child up in the Christian faith and to be there for the family in hard times. Often, during the ceremony the godparent brings the child to the baptism act and in some countries the godparent chooses the infant's name.
