A nautical mile is a length unit that is about one minute of arc (an angular measurement unit that is equal to 1 ⁄ 60 of one degree) of a latitude that is measured along a meridian (an imaginary line that runs from the north pole to the south pole), or about one minute of arc of longitude of the equator. It is equal to 1,852 meters.
