Riparian communities (of palns and/or various ceratures) occur within biomes where there is a perennial water flow close to the earth's surface. This term refers to zones along rivers (the word Riparian comes from Greek: rippa - a river in Greek), however, it is also used to describe communities along shore lines. Riparian communities are viewed as a unique habitat, and not as biomes.
