How do we keep up with someone who is talking about suicide, even though it says it's "resolved?"

I just saw a post where someone wrote they were tired of living and wanted to know how to "end it all." I am not a psychologist, I'm a former 6th grade teacher and have had quite a bit of experience with kids. I've also had my own depression. I would like to help, but do not want to make things worse, if I am not qualified to help. My ex-husband was bi-polar, and suicidal, and I don't want anyone to go through that. I feel that teenagers especially head toward suicide because it's difficult for them to see that the future can be so much different.
