There is a rich muted raspberry color that might work. A green with the slightest hint of olive (light) could work. A subtle taupe or mushroom maybe? Any color you use should be subdued so it doesn't battle with the vibrancy of the gold.

I like the idea of a subdued color,it would ceartanly make me more viberant,But fear i will end up with a muted Raspberry,,
